Background
The Women’s International Peace Centre, on behalf of the Women’s Situation Room Uganda, is implementing, with funding from the Embassy of Ireland, a project intended to strengthen local women’s groups and organizations to contribute to peaceful elections in Moroto, Hoima, Jinja and Arua Districts. The goal of the project is to prevent, mitigate, and respond to election-related violence in order to promote social cohesion and peace in Uganda.
The Women’s Situation Room will enhance the capacity of women-led groups and
organizations, and other informal women groupings, including youth at the community level to contribute to peacebuilding and early warning and response mechanisms. They will also support the establishment of conflict resolution and peacebuilding mechanisms in communities before, during, and after the elections. The project focuses on the crucial role of women and youth in peacebuilding and aims to strengthen partnerships among civil society actors and between civil society and government stakeholders involved in electoral processes. This collaboration will enable real-time responses to election-related violence to ensure effective intervention and response across the sub-regions.
Job Summary
The Project Officer will play a key role in supporting the effective implementation of activities of the project titled “Strengthening local women’s movements to contribute to peaceful elections in Uganda.”
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the National Coordinator the Project Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:
• Support the Coordinator and MERL Manager in planning, and implementing the project activities in Moroto, Hoima, Jinja and Arua Districts
• Develop detailed project activity work plans and manage the implementation of
project activities to ensure effective and timely execution to the required standards and guidelines of the organization.
• Participate and contribute to weekly, monthly, quarterly and other scheduled project performance review meetings.
• Participate in project monitoring of activities and undertake regular and timely
reporting.
• Contribute to learning and actively participate in documentation of success stories, lessons learnt during project implementation and blog writing for information sharing.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual and final project narrative reports
• Contribute to proposal writing and fundraising to support program activities
• Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Education and Qualifications:
First degree in social sciences master’s degree or equivalent in peacebuilding, social sciences, law, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development or a related field is required.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in the field of governance and development.
• Proven experience of working with national and sub-regional stakeholders in the areas of good governance, elections, peace and conflict resolution
• Proven project management experience preferably in the non-profit sector with sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of project cycle (design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation)
• Proven experience in coordination of civil society partnerships and networking Strong analytical ability
• Strong writing and oral communication skills
• Experience in implementing projects in different regions in Uganda is an asset
• Experience working with an Non-Governmental Organization and/or International
Non-Governmental Organization working on peace and security is an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other local languages in the districts of implementation would be an asset.
