The Women’s International Peace Centre Annual Report 2024 documents a year of bold feminist peacebuilding across conflict-affected and politically fragile contexts in Africa. Anchored in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda and guided by the Centre’s WEAVE model, the report reflects how women’s leadership, collective agency, and lived experiences shaped peacebuilding efforts at community, national, regional, and global levels. In a context of shrinking civic space, protracted conflict, and climate-related crises, women and youth continued to organise, advocate, and lead transformative change.

In 2024, the Peace Centre worked across Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda, reaching over 12,000 direct beneficiaries through initiatives that strengthened women’s participation in peace processes, institutionalised women’s leadership, and advanced feminist policy reform. Women peacebuilders and youth leaders influenced national and regional peace dialogues, contributed to the launch and implementation of WPS action plans, and shaped continental and global policy spaces including the African Union and the United Nations. Grassroots women-led organisations were resourced to respond to climate change, strengthen community resilience, and create livelihood opportunities, while survivors of conflict-related violence were supported to engage in transitional justice and accountability processes. These efforts resulted in tangible policy influence, stronger local peace structures, and expanded spaces for women’s leadership and decision-making.

Beyond numbers and outputs, this report reflects the power of strategic partnerships, collective advocacy, and locally rooted feminist approaches to achieving sustainable peace. It presents key achievements, lessons learned, and financial accountability, while outlining strategic priorities for the year ahead. As the world marks 25 years of UNSCR 1325, the Annual Report serves as both a record of collective impact and a call to action—reaffirming that peace is only sustainable when it is inclusive, just, and shaped by the leadership and voices of women.
