In January, 2024, Napak District in Uganda embarked on a transformative journey towards advancing the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda through the localization and drafting of a Local Action Plan (LAP). Spearheaded by key district stakeholders, this initiative aimed to amplify awareness, foster collaboration, and drive meaningful change within the community.

The process commenced with a comprehensive training by the Women’s International Peace Centre from January 8th to 9th, focusing on the localization of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security. District stakeholders immersed themselves in understanding the WPS Agenda and the Uganda National Action Plan III, equipping themselves with essential knowledge and skills for developing and implementing Local Action Plans. The training also saw the establishment of a dedicated district task force, entrusted with driving the LAP’s development and execution.

Building on this momentum, a three-day drafting workshop unfolded from January 10th to 12th, engaging the newly formed district technical task force. Comprising of eleven dedicated members, including representatives from various sectors such as community development, law enforcement, governance, and civil society, the task force delved into the intricacies of drafting the Napak Local Action Plan.

Throughout the workshop, task force members meticulously crafted the LAP’s goal, defined strategic objectives, and outlined targeted interventions to drive tangible outcomes. Facilitated discussions and collaborative efforts enabled the team to navigate through each section of the LAP, ensuring alignment with the district’s unique needs and priorities. Progress was shared, action plans were formulated, and next steps were outlined to propel the LAP’s development forward.

The localisation and drafting process of the Napak Local Action Plan signify a pivotal moment in the district’s commitment to promoting peace, gender equality, and inclusive development. By harnessing the collective expertise and dedication of key stakeholders, Napak District strides confidently towards a future where women’s voices are amplified, peace is safeguarded, and communities thrive in harmony.
