On 25th November 2024, during the National Launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence in Kampala, the Women’s International Peace Centre was honored with a prestigious award by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in recognition of our unwavering commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda in Uganda.

This recognition is a testament to our work in empowering women to actively participate in peacebuilding processes, addressing gender inequalities, and fostering inclusive solutions to conflict and violence. Over the years, the Peace Centre has played a pivotal role in equipping women with the tools and platforms they need to become leaders and agents of change in their communities.

This year’s award comes at a critical time as Uganda joins the global community in observing the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, a campaign dedicated to eliminating violence against women and girls. The Ministry of Gender, Labour, and and Social Development applauded our efforts in creating safe spaces for women, amplifying their voices, and driving advocacy for gender justice at local, national, and international levels.

We are deeply honored to receive this award, Said Sandra Adong Oder, the Executive Director of the Peace Centre. It inspires us to continue the crucial work of championing women’s leadership in peacebuilding, addressing Gender Based Violence, and ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind in our collective efforts towards peace and justice. Sandra added

The award underscores the Peace Centre’s role in strengthening the implementation of WPS  agenda in Uganda. Through various programs and initiatives, we have supported grassroots women, collaborated with policymakers, and influenced transformative change that upholds the rights and dignity of women and girls.

As we celebrate this milestone, we re-affirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and peaceful society where women’s voices and contributions are not only heard but prioritised.

This award isn’t just for us at the Peace Centre, its for the incredible resilient girls and women we serve both in Africa and around the world. – Sandra emphasised.
